Intermittent Fasting and Low Carb Diets

You’ve heard of intermittent fasting and low carb diets as two different ways to lose weight and burn body fat. But did you know that you can combine the two and get surprising results?

You won’t believe how quickly the pounds start to melt off when you fast part of the day and then eat low carb the rest of the time.

From a previous post, you will know there are different fasting protocols.

Many people find it most comfortable to start by fasting for 16 hours plus and then enjoying one or two healthy, low carb, high-fat meals in the remaining time.

Here are a few examples of fasting for 16 hours.

Have your evening meal at 6.30 pm, at breakfast, you are fasting so take only broth, black coffee or water and the 16 hours fast concludes at 10.30 am, easy!

Clock and coffeeAnother way is to have lunch at noon, fast for the evening meal with broth, black coffee or water, and the 16 hour fast concludes at breakfast the next day.

When you break your fast and have a meal, don’t forget to make low carb choices. A typical day may look like this.

You get up in the morning and grab some coffee.

Go about your day and if you start to feel the need for food around lunch time,   grab some homemade, low carb chicken, about 4 oz salad on a bed of low carb vegetables with a low carb dressing.

The fats and protein in the meal will keep you going until it’s time for an early dinner of steak 4 oz, steamed broccoli or other low carb vegetable and plenty of butter.

Steak, And vegetables

Those two meals will keep you going until it’s bedtime. The rest of your fasting time will be spent getting a good 8 hours of sleep.

That sounds easy, doesn’t it?

And it really is once your body gets used to burning fat for energy instead of sugar. I have to warn you. That transitional time – which only lasts a few days for most of us – can be rough. You’ll have cravings. You’ll feel hungry. You’d give just about anything for a candy bar.

Intermittent Fasting and Low Carb Diets

If you start fasting and local carb eating at the same time, its is hard taking a lot of will power.

Instead, start by eating low carb, for a week

Once you get used to this, you’ll notice a reduced appetite, and that’s the perfect time to add some intermittent fasting to the mix. Switching to burning fat for energy is a natural appetite suppressant and your best ally when it comes to fasting. Don’t be surprised if you have to remind yourself to eat at least once or twice a day.

By combining the two, you give your body plenty of time and opportunity to burn through excess body fat. It is one of the quickest and most powerful ways I know to burn fat and lose weight. And as a bonus, you’ll feel great with lots of energy and mental clarity. It is well worth the effort of making it through those first few days until your body gets used to things. I hope you give it a try and let me know how your experience is going.
